Greetings!

Hello, I am Randy Zhu, a student studying computer science at the University of British Columbia.

I’ve been captivated by computers since I can remember, but these days, my interests are in systems software, networking, and developer tooling, particularly: compilers, hacking device drivers, and OS work.

You can find posts about non-proprietary/non-embargoed projects I’ve worked on in this website! Unfortunately, most of my low-level work is paid and under NDAs/corporate IP, so I cannot put it on this website.

Currently, I am an intern at Nexthop on the CE team, where I work with hyperscalers on high performance optical switches optimized for AI.

Previously, I worked at Netgear, where I worked on a UI rework, and a Linux kernel driver for a new product release.

During school terms, I TA’d two courses: Introduction to Computer Systems (CPSC 213), and Introduction to Software Engineering (CPSC 210). I was also awarded the Undergraduate Teaching Assistant Award by the CS department for excellence in teaching; and I have aggregated some student testimonials from course surveys across various sections. When I am back to school, I intend to TA again.

My undergraduate thesis was about unit test generation, specifically a unit test generation tool called ExploTest. I had the privilege to be supervised by Dr. Caroline Lemieux, and worked with Kevin Liu and many others in the UBC Software Practices Lab to complete.

I complete my degree in April 2028, and I’m looking for internships after Nexthop, hopefully in the systems/devtool/networking space.
